Project Case Study: Halfaker & Associates Website
Summary: Changing its business model, the client needed a new website as it expanded beyond its defense contractor heritage. I managed the project to give the client a modern website that helps the client secure new clients and recruit new employees, to better compete with big consulting firms like Accenture and BearingPoint.
Client: Halfaker & Associates (Arlington, VA)
Challenge: Disabled veteran Dawn Halfaker founded Halfaker & Associates in 2006 as a defense contractor, working with clients like the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Five years later, the company was changing its business model to now pursue corporate clients, too. Unfortunately, the firm’s website was dated, hard-to-update, and overly focused on the company’s military heritage. In the midst of the rebranding, Halfaker & Associates needed a modern website to help it land new clients that would be its future.
Solution: My employer at the time (Coalmarch Productions in Raleigh, NC) designed and built the new Halfaker site. We used the open source Drupal content management system (CMS) and created a custom job-search web app, which helps the Halfaker meet its goal of recruiting new employees as it fulfills both government and corporate contracts. The site runs in parallel to the client’s previous employee intranet site.
Result: The client received a website that’s modern and easy to update, and that fulfills its dual goals — sell to new clients and recruit new employees. Features include social media integration, news feed, and custom jobs search engine.
My Role as Web Project Manager: I managed the website project from planning to design to development to launch, as liaison between the client and agency teams.
