Project Case Study: Tourism E-Commerce Website and Email Marketing Program
Client: Whippany Railway Museum
Where: Morris County, New Jersey
Challenge: A historic preservation non-profit with “cash only” ticket sales struggled to connect with younger customers in the age of iPhones and credit cards, while having no budget for capital-intensive marketing investments.
Solution: Launched e-commerce website to handle online ticketing (hosted via third-party vendor, to minimize startup costs) and created email marketing program to drive event sales.
Result: Profits went up 38% in the first year, while simultaneously accelerating revenue collection, shortening ticket office lines, and reducing administrative overhead.
My Role: Selected ticketing vendor and worked with board members to configure and manage the online ticket system, which minimized startup costs. Created email marketing templates and wrote copy for first year’s content. Trained volunteers on doing email marketing and successfully delegated the process to new team.
